Mogsy's Book Haul
The Golden City and The Seat of Magic - an urban fantasy set in an alternate world Portugal featuring mermaids and selkies and other mythological beings? How cool! I have yet to read a good "sea creature" book and these sound promising. My thanks to Roc for sending along the series for review.
Xom-B - from Thomas Dunne Books comes a zombie book that is also unlike any zombie book I've ever read, apparently. I can see that. When else have I come across something that mixes zombies and robots together?
Tower Lord - book two of the Raven's Shadow series, I am super excited about reading this sequel to Blood Song and continuing Vaelin Al Sorna's story.
Falling Sky - upcoming steampunk post-apocalyptic novel from Pyr about airship societies after humanity took the the skies in the wake of a virus outbreak that turned most of the population into "Ferals". Don't know about you, but that sounds suspiciously like zombies to me as well. Regardless, this one looks fascinating.
The Crossing - I received a copy of Resurrection for review a couple weeks ago, which is the third book of the Blood of the Lamb series. After the premise piqued my interest, I decided I should check out the first book.
Motherless Child and The Ring and the Crown - my thanks to my ARC trading buddy and super sweetie Tabitha from Not Yet Read for sending me these books! Both of these titles are high on my to read list!
Nothing in the digital pile for me this week, though there were a lot of good ebook deals I had to pass on. (Just let it go, Mogsy, let it go...) I'm trying to cut back on my book buys this summer, there are just too many stacking up!

Tower Lord is out in the wild huh? So the reviews should start showing up soon. Let's see if Ryan was more than a one hit wonder.
ReplyDeleteOf the two or three reviews I've seen so far, the reception has been pretty positive! So yeah, I'm hoping to see too.
DeleteOh I'm so curious about The Golden City and The Seat of Magic, I can't wait to read your thoughts! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can't wait! Thanks!
DeleteOOoh nice haul! Lots of new to me books here! Hope you love them all!
ReplyDeleteMy STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then!
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Tower Lord and Falling Sky both look interesting. Nice haul!
ReplyDeleteHere's how I Stacked the Shelves this week.
So excited for Tower Lord. Like the look of the urban fantasy books too. Plus. Zombies!!!
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I've been seeing some great hauls recently! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on The Seat of Magic - that cover is total Danya-bait.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the covers really ARE gorgeous...
DeleteI also got Falling Skies. Tor sent me a finished copy of Motherless Child which I'm dying to read. Congrats on standing strong and just saying no to digital review copies!
ReplyDeleteSweet! Motherless Child looks like a quick read, I can probably knock it out one of these days :)
DeleteI need to read the first Anthony Ryan book
ReplyDeleteAlmost done with Ryan's first book "Blood Song". Wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be to be honest. Haven't finished it yet, but so far it didn't live up to the hype of what I was expecting. People need to be careful when they throw out comparisons to other authors.
ReplyDeleteI think I saw a lot of people compare it to Rothfuss...I didn't feel it, personally. But then, that's me with all comparisons with all others books; I never see it! I thought Blood Song wasn't that bad though.
DeleteOooh Lovely haul!! The Golden City is one on my tbr shelf so I'll be looking out for your review for it! I hope you enjoy it! I also got The Ring and the Crown recently so we'll have to compare notes once we both have read it :) Falling Sky and those Raven Shadows books also look really great! I hope you enjoy all your goodies ^^ happy reading!
ReplyDeleteMicheline @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews
Yay, lots of books to compare :)
DeleteI will be so excited when you read The Golden City. I haven't been entirely impressed with water based creature fantasy books but this one really pleasantly surprised me. I think its because its adult and historical fantasy and the characters and setting was just great.
ReplyDeleteI get the feeling you're going to like The Ring and the Crown for how its not mainstream YA.
Stay strong on the digitals! I think I've gone at least a week without grabbing one...wait no I lied I got Rachel Aaron's NICE DRAGONS FINISH LAST. ahhh the stakes how they teeter.
Did I tell you I reorganized my shelves last week while Colin and I were 'home sick'? what a task...I lost a book that I need to review too. DRATS
Haha, I don't organize my shelves. Well, not really, I go with the system "wherever it fits" :P
DeleteI'm really looking forward to the Golden City books, as well as The Ring and the Crown!
The Golden City looks especially good--an urban fantasy in an alternate Portugal sounds interesting. I'll look forward to your review of it and all these books!
ReplyDeleteOh! You got a pretty cover on Tower Lord :) I am about 25% through it and curious to see what you think of it. I'm really enjoying it, but the multiple POVs definitely gives it a different feel. And zombie robots? Robot Zombies? Or is it robots and zombies (together at last)? Either way, I'm curious to hear how that one is as well :)
ReplyDeleteIt's the finished copy, so that means you must have gotten the arc! Cool! I'm going to tackle it next, I think...after I'm done Cibola Burn. Two huge books one after another, I think I'm insane :P
DeleteYep, it's a proof. It's the first time I've requested a physical book from a publisher and was super excited to see it show up a few days later! :) I think I am often insane with my reading choices. :) But its all good.
