Mogsy's Book Haul
Wolfhound Century - I'm actually not sure how this book has slipped my interest for so long, but it wasn't until the recent release of the sequel that I finally started looking at the reviews and damn it just sounds so interesting. So excited that I won book one in a giveaway!
World of Trouble - The Last Policeman series is simply awesome and totally underrated. It's about a policeman who is determined to do his job to the very last second even as a killer asteroid is hurtling towards earth threatening to destroy all life in just a few months. I received the ARC of this third and last book of the trilogy from LibraryThing's Early Reviewers program and something tells me it's going to be explosive.
Veil of the Deserters - earlier this month I read and enjoyed Scourge of the Betrayer and was delighted when I got offered the exciting opportunity to review an ARC of the sequel. My thanks to Night Shade Books and Jeff Salyards! I loved the first book and I've heard the second is even better, so I'm super psyched.
Thief's Magic - thus far the only Trudi Canavan book that I have under my belt is the first book of her Black Magician trilogy, and I know she has at least one other trilogy and a few other works that are based in that world. At first, I thought that was the case with Thief's Magic as well, but apparently it's a completely new start to a new story, and so I couldn't resist checking it out. My thanks to Orbit Books!
The Shadow Throne - last but not least, I am over the moon about this ARC of the sequel to The Thousand Names. Even though it's not releasing for a few months yet, I couldn't help it, I dug in right away.
Half a King - I actually got this from Netgalley last week along with what seems like half the spec fic blogosphere, but I'd prepared my last book haul post early in preparation for a weekend trip so it didn't make it in. Something tells me it's going to be my last eARC from NG for a while, at least until I finish reviewing some of my current requests. I just really couldn't resist this one though.
The Remaining and Malice - this week I also have audiobooks in the digital pile. I got some Audible coupon codes a few days ago, so what did I do? Decided to put them towards a couple Orbit audiobooks, of course.
Dragon Age: The Masked Empire - so is anyone else excited about Dragon Age: Inquisition? Earlier this week the October release date was announced along with a sweet new gameplay trailer. The original plan was to read this one right before DA:I to get myself pumped up, but I'll probably crack before then. Regardless, I probably could have waited to buy this book, but I was still soaring rather high on the news and grabbed the Kindle version to go with the others. It's the first DA novel not written by David Gaider, but Patrick Weekes is an awesome writer too.

Malice had to grown on me but then I really enjoyed it
ReplyDeleteAwesome, I'm looking forward to listening to the audiobook! The audio format for longer books seem to work better for me.
DeleteI enjoyed Malice. I have sat on Wolfhound Century for six months now because I heard its ending is so abrupt.
ReplyDeleteI've just always thought the series wouldn't be my thing, but some of the reviews and descriptions for the second book made me rethink. With Truth and Fear out now it might be time for me to check it out.
DeleteScourge of the Betrayer, Theif's Magic, Half a King and Malice are books I definitely need to read. I always feel like I'm super behind on the latest fantasy books XD
ReplyDeleteGreat haul!
I think that's how we all kinda feel as some point or another :D Hope you'll enjoy Scourge of the Betrayer as that's the only one I've read, but the others shall be devoured in good time.
DeleteI'm pretty sure my entire household (the three gaming nerds we are) watched that Institution trailer at least four times. I looked at the book last night. It looks interesting, and the cover is amazing. I'll be interested to see what you think.
ReplyDeleteI've also been watching that Trudi Canavan book. I've heard mixed things, but it looks good too me!
*Inquisition. Spelling fail
DeleteThat was a bloody amazing trailer. I seriously can't wait. With the Witcher 3 pushed back to next year, DA:I is pretty much IT for my most anticipated RPG of the year :D (I'm looking forward to Watch Dogs too, but...hey, Dragon Age!)
DeleteCongrats on THE SHADOW THRONE! I need to start that series! And I've heard so many great things about THE LAST POLICEMAN series. I don't think I realized it was SF, but now my interest is piqued enough to buy it. Awesome haul! On a side note: my ongoing puzzlement over why I'm not receiving email notifications from Blogger blogs: I've realized it's not just your blog but others I'm following. Something is going on with google and my att email. They just aren't connecting. So I'm now subscribed to Bibliosactum under my gmail account, and that seems to be working fine. I don't get it!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Last Policeman is pretty awesome. The first book was more a mystery/police procedural and just good enough to get me to pick up the second book, but oh boy am I glad I did. I'm not surprised that the SF elements would slip by, since the asteroid/apocalyptic stuff didn't come in play that heavily until book 2, but now I'm hooked!
DeleteAnd who knows what blogger is up to! How frustrating D:
Alright I am totally checking out Theif's Magic right now - love it when I find these possible gems because of you!
ReplyDeleteThere's a special preorder price of $2.99 for Thief's Magic btw! I'm actually quite shocked because that is one sweet deal. I hope more publisher will do special preorder pricing like this, or that orbit will do that with future titles...even though I have this review copy, I jumped on that deal soon as I saw it.
DeleteYou might as well get on with what Empress Celine is up to, since the next book is out in August, which is still before the game comes out :P
ReplyDeleteOh there's another one coming out later this year? Good to know, thanks! I'll read this one post haste and save the August one for the fall :D
DeleteYup, it was my WoW a few weeks ago.
DeleteOh I must not have taken a good enough look. I thought it was a graphic novel or a compendium guide.
DeleteNope -- although I do recommend the art book as well. I reviewed that last summer. So beautiful. And informative.
DeleteFabulous haul! I couldn't resist Half a King either. Seriously, I had promised myself the day before, no more galleys until I finished a bunch that I already have. Then that showed up, LOL. Maybe the rule will stick now . . .
ReplyDeleteLOL I can tell you a day after I made that rule for myself, I broke it with another Angry Robot title. Seriously, we need help! :D
