I'm not typically a romance fan, but a friend wrote this book and I read it initially out of that 'obligation,' but by 2:00AM the next morning, I was so completely smitten with the characters and their emotional struggles that I spent the rest of the day in an exhausted book funk, desperately needing to get home from work so I could finish the book.

See I just can't. I have this huge "Enough with the shit covers" attitude towards indie and small press authors. I think if you are going to write a book and invest ALL that time, invest some money and faith into your own work and pay for a decent cover.
ReplyDeleteThat cover screams indie to me so I would never pick it up no matter how amazing the story line sounded. In that sense I guess I am a cover snob bitch.
Thank you for this. See, I've always felt bad for being a "cover snob bitch" because I realize indies and small press just don't have that kinda cash. But it's true...bad covers are a major turn off. Especially since I do freelance art and commisions myself, I know for a fact there are so many decent artists out there willing to take on cover for very reasonable prices
DeleteI definitely judge books by their covers and have bought/read some based entirely on the pretty. Unless there is a compelling reason for me to look beyond the cover, I will skip a book with a poorly done cover. In this case, it was written by a friend.
DeleteThere's a blog dedicated to exposing Lousy Book Covers. I warn you. It's a bit like driving past an accident. You don't want to look but can't help it.
ReplyDeleteLOL BRILLIANT. I couldn't stop laughing, thanks for sharing!
DeletePretty sure this is the best thing ever!
