Mogsy's Pick
The Three by Sarah Lotz: May 20, 2014 (Little, Brown and Company)
I want to read this one so much. As to why, I think the description speaks for itself. Mix of paranormal, thriller, mystery and horror. It's already giving me the heebie jeebies.
"Four
simultaneous plane crashes. Three child survivors. A religious fanatic
who insists the three are harbingers of the apocalypse. What if he's
right? The world is stunned when four commuter planes crash within hours of each other on different continents. Facing global panic, officials are under pressure to find the causes. With terrorist attacks and environmental factors ruled out, there doesn't appear to be a correlation between the crashes, except that in three of the four air disasters a child survivor is found in the wreckage.
Dubbed 'The Three' by the international press, the children all exhibit disturbing behavioural problems, presumably caused by the horror they lived through and the unrelenting press attention. This attention becomes more than just intrusive when a rapture cult led by a charismatic evangelical minister insists that the survivors are three of the four harbingers of the apocalypse. The Three are forced to go into hiding, but as the children's behaviour becomes increasingly disturbing, even their guardians begin to question their miraculous survival..."
But why did no child survive in the forth crash? WHY?
ReplyDeleteYes, WHYYYYYY!? Subtle, but probably the biggest question of the novel, I actually think the description is kind of brilliant that way!
DeleteI'm curious about this one, but it all comes down to whether it's a predictable Christian Rapture kind of story, or (hopefully) something a bit more interesting and creative.
ReplyDeleteHere's my WOW
Yeah, I am curious as to what you'll think as a horror fan. This has been getting a lot of positive buzz so I'm pretty optimistic!
DeleteBloody marvelous book, that. Seriously. Absolutely loved it.
ReplyDeleteSuper jealous that you got to read it already! None of the copies up on NetGalley are available to US... *cry*
DeleteYes, totally! I want to read this. Sadly, I was turned down for a review copy on Edelweiss:( *sad face* Man, I love that cover!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I love it! For a while I had only seen the UK cover, and when I saw this one it's like wow, that's pretty intense.
DeleteGot the ARC for this, and excited to rip into it closer to the release date. I'm hopeful it will deliver on all the mysteries presented in just the blurb...here's hoping!
